MAPLEWOOD HOMEBUILDERS GIVES THE GIFT OF TECHNOLOGY TO CHILDREN THROUGHOUT NEW JERSEY

Paterson, NJ, December 17, 2007
In the spirit of the holiday season, Maplewood is giving back to local communities by investing in the future of their children. Maplewood Homebuilders has donated ten desktop computers to The Boys & Girls Club of Paterson at School 18 and ten desktop computers to The Rahway Community Action Organization, to bring the gift of technology to inner-city youth.

Maplewood Homebuilders is the residential arm of P & F Management, a real estate investment and development company specializing in the acquisition and repositioning of  residential and commercial properties in New Jersey and the metropolitan New York area. The company is currently developing innovative communities in urban centers such as Paterson, Rahway and Plainfield.

“It’s very rewarding for us to be able to make this kind of investment in the cities of Paterson and Rahway and in the future of these children,” says Warren King, Project Manager for P & F Management. P & F is committed to working and rebuilding in Paterson and Rahway, and this is one way for us to really be involved in the communities. We currently have a number of communities in the pipeline in Paterson and Rahway, so we plan to be in these cities for many years to come – just like these two outstanding organizations. We believe in the work they’re doing and we’re pleased to be able to support them.”

The Boys and Girls Club of Paterson has its roots in the social upheaval of the early 1960's. The city of Paterson was changing in a fundamental way and the city's business and civic leaders were looking for ways to stabilize the change. A close group of business leaders came together to incorporate the Boys Club of Paterson in 1963. In 2003, the Club announced a new plan, which had a goal of providing core skills for its members, including the ability to read and the ability to have a technological base. Children who attend The Boys & Girls Club of Paterson are exposed to a diverse group of activities, including math and reading classes, swimming, performing arts and much more.

Steve Mills, Unit Director for The Boys & Girls Club of Paterson, acknowledges that gifts and support from companies like P & F play a huge role in helping the organization reach its goals, to make a positive change in the lives of today’s youth. “We’re extremely grateful to Maplewood Homebuilders and P & F Management for their generous donation of these computers,” he says. “Everywhere you turn, you’re reminded how computer skills are not only important, but crucial for success in today’s high-tech world. A donation like this makes it so much easier for us to equip young people with the skills and tools they need to excel in life.”

The Rahway Community Action Organization (RCAO)/JFK Community Center is a community-based organization with roots deep within the Rahway and greater Union County area. Founded in 1967, the center provides human and social services such as after-school and family development programs, summer day camp, youth employment, recreation, services for seniors, emergency food programs, and childcare services. The center engages participants in a variety of structured learning experiences, which are targeted toward the attainment of marketable skills, educational achievement, community service and responsibility, health education and personal and social development.

David Brown, Rahway City Councilman, played an influential role in deciding where P & F’s donation could best be used in his city. “I work very closely with The Rahway Community Center and I knew a donation like this would be truly beneficial to the organization,” says Councilman Brown. “I was thrilled to learn that the computers were up-to-date and working well because the better the equipment, the more the kids will actually use them. Computers play a major role in our lives today and it is critical that every child have access to one. This was a great opportunity for everyone involved to give back to the community.”

Founded in 2006, P & F Management acquires properties through traditional and non-traditional methods, such as real estate brokerage firms, public offerings, bankruptcies, private/public partnerships with municipalities and special situation workouts. The company maximizes values through rezoning, redevelopment and resolution of environmental issues or aggregation of adjacent parcels.

Under the Maplewood Homebuilders name, P & F is currently developing several residential communities in urban centers. In Rahway, the company has received approval to develop The Lofts at Rahway Station, a 4-story building featuring 3 floors of upscale residential space and a ground level of nearly 7,000 square feet of retail space. Similar communities are in development in Paterson and Plainfield. Also in Paterson, P & F has acquired vacant property on Ellison Street, which will be developed to include professional and retail space, along with a computer resource center for city residents. The company continues to actively explore other future growth opportunities. Sister company Maplewood Homebuilders entered the New Jersey market in 2007 with a portfolio of ten premier residential communities throughout the central and southern region of the state.
